You may not realize it, but the gallery is basically groups of sims in the following configurations:
mom, dad, children (teens and younger)
Rare exceptions to the above. It is the exceptions I’m after. Unique with a story that I can embellish as needed to give the sim something more than just a name and clothes.
It is no wonder I’m having trouble auditioning for the contestant spots. I did find Sean. I thought the story was interesting and since he starts as a teen I of course need to age up the family appropriately.
Backstory: Sean Jennings
Sean has a twin brother named David. The two spent their teenage years raising their younger brother and sister as best as two kids could. Now they are grown up looking to find a way out of their current living situation.
Sean has set his sights on this new Bachelorette show he saw on television. He got his acceptance letter today and is trying to not feel guilty by leaving his brother David behind to care for Ian and Susan.
Sean wants love and a family. Will the bachelorette be “the one”? He hopes so, this house is getting very small.
For this one I wanted to see if an existing lot by Maxis would work – much like for my last contestant. Brook Bungalow in Willow Creek fit the bill. I had to add another twin bed to the toddler’s room; however it works. I’m trying to ensure all my contestants have a double bed at their house … because WooHoo is allowed on those dates 🙂
In adding clothes to Sean I discovered he was either barefoot or wore green sneakers. Even in formal. This will be fun. Because he is creative I started him on the writer career. I had to give him a few skills to help:
I walked away for about 30 minutes and let them run around a do whatever. Did a quick save and exited – so any previews on his family will come with the home visit!
I saved the hardest lot for first. The filming house. I reviewed hundreds of lots in the gallery and I honestly thought I’d have to build this myself! Then I lucked out. I found a hunk in the heap of duds.
Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of nice “looking” houses. FindJoo is a creator who has amazing talent if you’re looking for a house that is appealing on the outside and each room is finely decorated down to the pixel. But if you’re looking for an authentic house with flow; that seems to be a weakness of most of the talent out there.
I mean, walking through a bar to get to the kid’s room? Why do they need Jacuzzi tubs?
To get to a specific bedroom you have to walk through not just one, but maybe two or three more and likely a few bathrooms along the way.
I get the impression their glory is on the initial “wow” effect and after downloading and exploring many players realize they can’t even use the property . I found my needle in a haystack.
The only renovating required was the color scheme for the bachelors and that one bedroom that exists on the ground floor that I converted to butler quarters. The Bachelorette quarters needed to have less pink barbie and more classy femininity. The play test revealed some items that needed to be addressed and I’m glad a fire reminded me to install a sprinkler system!
I could not get the lot to install on a 50 x 50 lot as indicated and had to use a 64 x 64 to get it right. I added some nice flowers and a walkway to get to the lot. Absolutely in love.
I opted to go with a filming house as whatever house I use will be used for any Bachelor/Bachelorette challenges I do. If I have as much fun as I hope there may be more in my future. To be honest I may play the wedded couple for a 100 baby challenge.
I’ll end up playing them all in some fashion. I literally removed every sim via the household editor but those I’ve dropped in.
See the speed renovation and play test videos below.
It’s a new world if albeit a familiar one. I haven’t played a sims game since Sims 2 was released! I’ve put in 114 hours since I started Sims 4 TWO WEEKS ago. Yes, 14 days at 114 hours does equal 8.14 hours per day. Given that I play obsessively all weekend it is only like 4 hours each weeknight. Standard in my household.
I’m looking to find my zone in the game. I love building houses and creating stories. I’ve never streamed or published videos on it before because that started with King of Avalon. I’ll admit, I’m nervous. And stressed, haha. Going from a one-game persona to more agnostic one isn’t easy or overnight.
I enjoy being a part of an online community. I love to socialize in big groups who share the gaming bug as much as I dislike being around people in real life. I get to be extroverted in a safe introverted manner. I control who I talk to and when we interact. I can block/ignore and make lifelong friends.
I publish to be social. Not to be popular, just meet new people. So far I’ve been able to respond to every comment on every post I’ve made anywhere. I hope I can keep that up! I care more about community than views or likes; they make me feel good but it isn’t the reason I post. That reason is to be me and express myself in whatever I create. Like art. To be appreciated.
I am not sure at this time how I will acquire my Bachelor/Bachelorette, Contestants, Lots, or Families. I will either pull them from the Gallery or request that they be made/donated by fellow simmers.
I wanted to randomize as much as possible. This means I don’t want to create any of the Sims or Lots that will be used. I’ll either use the Gallery and ask real life friends to create a backstory or use the EA forums and post a thread there.
You can view the original at XUrbanSimsX website. I have added my own flair to them but kept the spirit of the original in mind. I have mostly changed the requirements and schedule, leaving the base rules in place and adding a few of my own.
I need a lot of them. I’m dubbing my show “The Sims in Love” and will be using #TSIL1 and #PHQ to identify this season and myself. If you make a Sim or Lot donation please ensure I have your Gallery username and that those two hashtags are used. Links to your creation will be provided – I have no plans to upload my own outside of anything that was renovated for the challenge.
Bachelor/Bachelorette & Contestant Requirements
Romantic trait is required for Bachelor/Bachelorette Sims
Everything else is up to the creator of the Sim: looks, clothes, other traits, and aspiration.
Backstory is required.
Family home is required.
Family of bachelor/bachelorette/contestant is required; 5 sims max.
No skills, fame, or job. Whatever they acquire in the preshow work is what they’ll start with.
No CC outside of formal outfit – CC links required. Just the top/bottoms/dress – not the shoes, makeup, hair, accessories, and such.
Preshow Work Requirements
Ideally I want a backstory and family to go with everyone. This includes their home. I will be playing the contestants to establish relationships with their family as my challenge will include a home visit to meet the family before our bachelor/bachelorette makes their final decision. Each season will have it’s own game save and all the actors and their families will live forever there. Who knows where this story will end up?
Backstage videos of the preshow work is very likely to be released at some point. If not just streamed live.
I need several for this challenge! I’m going from pre-show preparations to wedded bliss and the joining of two households. Either I’ll have to buy all the world expansions (will happen eventually) or I’ll add the locations as needed for the story. Ideally I wouldn’t use the same lot twice outside of the main filming. (24 Total) 1 – Filming House where everything happens; will be renovated to meet needs. 7 – Homes for each of the 7 contestants where they and their family will live. No renovations. 9 – Date venues; mix to cover solo and groups as large as 5 1 – Proposal venue; where the final two will travel to find out if they won his/her heart 1 – Engagement party venue; congrats to the new couple with family 2 – Bachelor/Bachelorette venues; one for each soon-to-be (yes, we’re going there) 1 – Wedding Venue for the happy couple 1 – Honeymoon venue. Is a baby next for them? 1 – Home for our Bachelor/Bachelorette where the happy couple will live after the show ends
NO CC for any Lot.
The Rule Book
Before each Rose Ceremony begins the Bachelor/Bachelorette must hug each single. The game is paused and relationship totals tallied. Then the formal ceremony continues with free will enabled.
The woman/man with the least compatibility with the Bachelor/Bachelorette will be forced to leave the house immediately once eliminated.
Once an eliminated contestant has left, no further contact is allowed via the Bachelor/Bachelorette or remaining contestants.
In the event of a tie, the contestant the best relationship with the rest of the sims in the household will be selected to stay, the other will be eliminated.
Once a contestant enters the house, they can only leave upon elimination.
Only service-based npcs are allowed to enter the property until the final Black & White event.
Interactions between sims are allowed, as long as they are fair and non romantic!
Sims are free to do as they please with full free will enabled.
No television, books, phones (will be silenced), tablets, radios/music or computers are allowed while filming for the contestants (outside of events with music).
Private journals are allowed and encouraged.
No forced romantic interactions, if It happens anonymously it must allowed to happen.
If your Bachelor/Bachelorette has whims/thoughts of a sim, be an interaction or even romantic (excluding WooHoo), you are allowed to perform the interaction at any given time. No thought/whim no romantic interaction!
The contestants, no matter the whims/thoughts are not given this privilege to act upon them with the Bachelor/Bachelorette. With each other, yes. Especially in moments of jealousy and mischievous behavior. Let drama in!
No WooHoo is allowed until only two contestants remain.
No Make a Baby is allowed until after the wedding ceremony.
Dates cannot be cancelled once they begin.
Share the love: you cannot repeat date a contestant until all contestants have had a date (group or solo) in the same elimination round. No double-dipping!
Kissing is allowed on dates.
There are no roses on dates.
All group dates are Elimination dates made up with sims who have the lowest relationship with our Bachelor/Bachelorette after the group house activity that Monday.
Solo dates are RNG based on who was left after the Elimination Group Date – the two highest relationship scores.
The Schedule of Events
I have decided to create 7 episodes over 5 weeks – 35 in total. I’ll create a week’s worth on the weekend and release the first episode on Sunday and then daily thereafter. I’ll have a week’s worth on hold at even given moment in case real life decides to have a turn. That does not include preshow work which I’m sure will add more. Maybe they’ll become a new challenge I can play out…
No real surprise, I did this in Google Sheets. I couldn’t help myself. The schedule as set will not change, just the titles as I acquire Lots for dates.
This is not a challenge exclusive to TS4 and has existed since TS1. I’ve decided to play it. I’ll publish each episode and have lots of content to go with such as interviews and backstage access to the wtf reel. Still undecided if I will Twitch with export to YouTube or if I’ll just record and upload to YouTube.
The original rules are posted on XUrbanSimsX website; however I will modify them a little. I want to stick to the real life rules and atmosphere as much as possible.
First up is the house. I’m still browsing around. I don’t want to build it myself as that’ll detract too much. Whatever I select will have a drastic makeover to make it work my needs.
I’ll be grabbing the male contestants from the gallery – selecting an entire family as I want them to have those relationships and a home they call theirs. This will require me to play those sims a bit before they decide to find love on a tv show.
Everyone will have their backstories and the game save I create for this will likely have some extended play time because I’m sure I’ll fall in love with the characters as they reveal themselves.
Out of all the challenges I read this one seemed the most fun and unpredictable. I’ll post my rules and the contestants as they occur. And the houses of course!
Suggestions welcome 🙂 Comment below and hit follow to stay tuned!
I lied. I not only bought a few Sims 4 extras but I also added mods and custom content. I went from nope not doing that cause it’ll mess up the game to full-in-spent-all-weekend-playing-with-just-that.
I’m not sorry either.
I bought the Get Famous expansion for many reasons. I compared all the expansions and decided this one offered the most content I wanted out of them all. I instant cheated my way to Global Superstar first thing. Had fun basking in the glow of my adoring fans and in general played with the new content until I felt comfortable with it. I added on the Vintage Glamor pack to enhance this purchase.
Then things took a turn. I bought the Parenthood Pack because I want to raise a family on this storyline and also acquired the Kids Room Stuff and Toddler Stuff cause they kinda go with it. I still haven’t touched this because…I started a new game with a completely different storyline. One of the things that happens in a sandbox game.
Mod the Sims
I didn’t just do mods, I did NSFW mods. Why? Cause I’m a grown ass woman and when my sims shower, pee, breastfeed, and woohoo I can’t stand the blur. It is annoying and I always patch that out – even when I played The Sims Online.
I found an amazing mod called WickedWhims and also installed animations and such that go with. It took me some time to work through the many settings and I eventually found my happy place with it.
Here is a list of what I call “helper” mods that I also installed:
I’m being very selective on what I’m adding and why. I played with a lot of mods this weekend and after I tested everything – in it’s own save file – I purged the stuff I didn’t like or need.
So, because I finally got access to 64×64 lots in Get Famous, I was able to use the original house I wanted before I discovered the base game only had 50×50 lots and I settled for the next best thing for Quinn Manor.
I didn’t look at the video until I created the link for this post. I didn’t even see the link when I downloaded…or I wouldn’t be as perturbed as I am right now. As you can see the download I did was a repost. Not a perfect one either. I’m missing all sorts of stuff that was in the original build. Like compare the two…
It also explains why all the comments say doors were missing and why some things look awkward. Based on what I see comparing the two this dracularua454 downloaded something that had content from more than the base game… which reverted it to just base game stuff. They then uploaded it as is.
Now I knew when I added this to my gallery that it was a remake of someone else’s work; however I clicked the original by link to amitaliri and got nothing. So I shrugged it off and just went with it cause the house is epic and is only more epic if I’d had the full version.
I approached this as a renovation of an old house to modernize and add personality. I had to add the missing doors and for the most part keep the layout and rooms as they were. I set the main center rooms downstairs (between the stairs) as open to guests and locked the doors leading to the stairs for household only. When testing the lot I noticed that sims went everywhere and it is a BIG house so you cannot do a goaled social event and meet all the objectives.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in love with my new castle and in love with the edits I’ve made. I only wish I’d had all the pretty things on the outside that add to the glamor of it. Nothing to do about it now. Good to know that while I was doing the renovations all the little quirks I found are now explained. Like how could someone make something so impressive and skillful but miss doors connecting everything?
So far I’m 75% done with the downstairs. I haven’t even touched upstairs. Part of renovating is “learning” the house. Building it then decorating you already have an idea what is where when you play. Coming in I had to study the “blueprints” and figure out how I wanted to make it work for my needs.
I’m still not sure what I’m doing with the right wing (if looking at the front of the house) but I have decided that the center is all for entertaining and the right and left wings are for family only as well as upstairs. For this reason I had to ensure I had music, bars, and bathrooms accessible in the public areas.
My version also has two rugs that are not removable. Bugged I’m sure. So I had to go with a color palette that worked since no other rug combo covered it well enough. In the end I decided that those two rugs are a family heirloom and as such are a part of the house.
That’s it for the “writing’ part of this post. What follows are just pictures that I took and shared of my renovation as I did it with friends in Discord (join us at https://discord.gg/qY8x3nh) and the captions highlight our conversations.
Once I discovered these fancy curtains from Get Famous! I was in lala land. Like literally…it changed everything on this build. Many things changed at this point and I haven’t taken full pictures yet. Perhaps I’ll do a walkthrough video once it is all done! Be sure to hit subscribe to get the latest updates.
I leave you with the link to the ORIGINAL BUILD which I wish I’d downloaded but I’m too far into this renovation to start over.
I was just skimming the gallery when I happened upon the perfect home for the Quinns. It featured 13 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The basement has a pool and the first floor is pure entertaining. The rest of the floors are bedrooms and baths with a library at the very top. The rooftop garden area is also unique.
The house is furnished but missing the final touches which I will enjoy adding. I plan on redecorating everything and renovating a few spaces to suit my needs.
I started with the master. It had no bathroom and even though I don’t really need one ensuite it didn’t seem right to have this massive bedroom with no bath.
So far I’ve been messing around with the arrangement and this is not the final product but to start my storyline it is.
That is all I managed tonight. I am in no rush, these things are a process. Quinn Manor will be a living thing – always changing.
