Challenge Rules [Sims in Love: Bachelorette Edition]

Challenge Rules [Sims in Love: Bachelorette Edition]

First, Let’s Get Personal

It’s a new world if albeit a familiar one. I haven’t played a sims game since Sims 2 was released! I’ve put in 114 hours since I started Sims 4 TWO WEEKS ago. Yes, 14 days at 114 hours does equal 8.14 hours per day. Given that I play obsessively all weekend it is only like 4 hours each weeknight. Standard in my household.

I’m looking to find my zone in the game. I love building houses and creating stories. I’ve never streamed or published videos on it before because that started with King of Avalon. I’ll admit, I’m nervous. And stressed, haha. Going from a one-game persona to more agnostic one isn’t easy or overnight.

I enjoy being a part of an online community. I love to socialize in big groups who share the gaming bug as much as I dislike being around people in real life. I get to be extroverted in a safe introverted manner. I control who I talk to and when we interact. I can block/ignore and make lifelong friends.

I publish to be social. Not to be popular, just meet new people. So far I’ve been able to respond to every comment on every post I’ve made anywhere. I hope I can keep that up! I care more about community than views or likes; they make me feel good but it isn’t the reason I post. That reason is to be me and express myself in whatever I create. Like art. To be appreciated.

The Sims Challenge: Bachelor/Bachelorette

I am not sure at this time how I will acquire my Bachelor/Bachelorette, Contestants, Lots, or Families. I will either pull them from the Gallery or request that they be made/donated by fellow simmers.

I wanted to randomize as much as possible. This means I don’t want to create any of the Sims or Lots that will be used. I’ll either use the Gallery and ask real life friends to create a backstory or use the EA forums and post a thread there.

Challenge Requirements

You can view the original at XUrbanSimsX website. I have added my own flair to them but kept the spirit of the original in mind. I have mostly changed the requirements and schedule, leaving the base rules in place and adding a few of my own.

Donations

I need a lot of them. I’m dubbing my show “The Sims in Love” and will be using #TSIL1 and #PHQ to identify this season and myself. If you make a Sim or Lot donation please ensure I have your Gallery username and that those two hashtags are used. Links to your creation will be provided – I have no plans to upload my own outside of anything that was renovated for the challenge.

Bachelor/Bachelorette & Contestant Requirements

  • Romantic trait is required for Bachelor/Bachelorette Sims
  • Everything else is up to the creator of the Sim: looks, clothes, other traits, and aspiration.
  • Backstory is required.
  • Family home is required.
  • Family of bachelor/bachelorette/contestant is required; 5 sims max.
  • No skills, fame, or job. Whatever they acquire in the preshow work is what they’ll start with.
  • No CC outside of formal outfit – CC links required. Just the top/bottoms/dress – not the shoes, makeup, hair, accessories, and such.

Preshow Work Requirements

Ideally I want a backstory and family to go with everyone. This includes their home. I will be playing the contestants to establish relationships with their family as my challenge will include a home visit to meet the family before our bachelor/bachelorette makes their final decision. Each season will have it’s own game save and all the actors and their families will live forever there. Who knows where this story will end up?

Backstage videos of the preshow work is very likely to be released at some point. If not just streamed live.

Lot Requirements

I need several for this challenge! I’m going from pre-show preparations to wedded bliss and the joining of two households. Either I’ll have to buy all the world expansions (will happen eventually) or I’ll add the locations as needed for the story. Ideally I wouldn’t use the same lot twice outside of the main filming.
(24 Total)
1 – Filming House where everything happens; will be renovated to meet needs.
7 – Homes for each of the 7 contestants where they and their family will live. No renovations.
9 – Date venues; mix to cover solo and groups as large as 5
1 – Proposal venue; where the final two will travel to find out if they won his/her heart
1 – Engagement party venue; congrats to the new couple with family
2 – Bachelor/Bachelorette venues; one for each soon-to-be (yes, we’re going there)
1 – Wedding Venue for the happy couple
1 – Honeymoon venue. Is a baby next for them?
1 – Home for our Bachelor/Bachelorette where the happy couple will live after the show ends

NO CC for any Lot.

The Rule Book

Elimination Rules

  • Before each Rose Ceremony begins the Bachelor/Bachelorette must hug each single. The game is paused and relationship totals tallied. Then the formal ceremony continues with free will enabled.
  • The woman/man with the least compatibility with the Bachelor/Bachelorette will be forced to leave the house immediately once eliminated.
  • Once an eliminated contestant has left, no further contact is allowed via the Bachelor/Bachelorette or remaining contestants.
  • In the event of a tie, the contestant the best relationship with the rest of the sims in the household will be selected to stay, the other will be eliminated.
  • Once a contestant enters the house, they can only leave upon elimination.

House Rules

  • Only service-based npcs are allowed to enter the property until the final Black & White event.
  • Interactions between sims are allowed, as long as they are fair and non romantic!
  • Sims are free to do as they please with full free will enabled.
  • No television, books, phones (will be silenced), tablets, radios/music or computers are allowed while filming for the contestants (outside of events with music).
  • Private journals are allowed and encouraged.
  • No forced romantic interactions, if It happens anonymously it must allowed to happen.
  • If your Bachelor/Bachelorette has whims/thoughts of a sim, be an interaction or even romantic (excluding WooHoo), you are allowed to perform the interaction at any given time. No thought/whim no romantic interaction!
  • The contestants, no matter the whims/thoughts are not given this privilege to act upon them with the Bachelor/Bachelorette. With each other, yes. Especially in moments of jealousy and mischievous behavior. Let drama in!
  • No WooHoo is allowed until only two contestants remain.
  • No Make a Baby is allowed until after the wedding ceremony.

Date Rules

  • Dates cannot be cancelled once they begin.
  • Share the love: you cannot repeat date a contestant until all contestants have had a date (group or solo) in the same elimination round. No double-dipping!
  • Kissing is allowed on dates.
  • There are no roses on dates.
  • All group dates are Elimination dates made up with sims who have the lowest relationship with our Bachelor/Bachelorette after the group house activity that Monday.
  • Solo dates are RNG based on who was left after the Elimination Group Date – the two highest relationship scores.

The Schedule of Events

I have decided to create 7 episodes over 5 weeks – 35 in total. I’ll create a week’s worth on the weekend and release the first episode on Sunday and then daily thereafter. I’ll have a week’s worth on hold at even given moment in case real life decides to have a turn. That does not include preshow work which I’m sure will add more. Maybe they’ll become a new challenge I can play out…

No real surprise, I did this in Google Sheets. I couldn’t help myself. The schedule as set will not change, just the titles as I acquire Lots for dates.

Building Gamer Teams

Building Gamer Teams

I get asked a lot about Kingdom 207. More so recently because you get to hear and see us play together as a team. In this post I’ll show you that building gamer teams is easy if a lot of work.

I did a seminar at work a few months ago. On The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni. This may seem boring; however it isn’t every day that your company sends managers to an enrichment session for personal growth.

The entire session reminded me of our KVK team in 207.

So what are those elements? I’ll break it down for you with examples on how you can apply this to your team – whether you do KVK, Conquest, KE, or another team-oriented hobby in general.

Think of a kingdom as business. You have a CEO, the king. Imagine how much stress you’d undergo at work if the CEO changed every two weeks? Think of how that impacts a kingdom. The same.

Rally behind one leader. That leader doesn’t need to have the best stats in the kingdom but they should be up there. They need to be the glue that holds the team together. They should be wise enough to see the right solution even if it is not their own.

You should have one kingdom leader that deals with drama that affects the kingdom. It should not be the king. You also need someone who is organized. You must also balance out with someone who is a fighter and another who is on the social end. You need a liaison who manages relationships between all the active alliances and their leadership.

These traits don’t need to be separate people. The smaller the team the closer members are. Your leadership team should be small. Not so small you miss out on opinion variety but small enough where you don’t branch out in cliques.

Here are the elements of a functioning team.

1. They trust one another.

This sounds simple, but it is not. It also means a lot more than its face value. To have trust you must open yourself up. Reveal weaknesses. Admit mistakes. Ask for help.

I often tell the KVK team that we’re so close because every two weeks we battle shoulder to shoulder and bleed for one another. We put it all out on the line. We trust that their reins will make it in time. That we’re fast enough to prevent tower zaps. It doesn’t always happen but that isn’t a failure of trust – shit happens. Megas hit that hurt worse than expected. Intentional suicide runs because you believe the Return on Investment is there.

Cause guess what. At the end of it all we share resources. If a person needs excessive speeds and wants to grind them via Trial Coins – the KVK buff is delayed. People who spent a lot of gold get the best packs – double or triple if invading. That gold adds up and helps with replenishment. We look out for each other and therefore do not need to look out for ourselves.

2. They engage in unfiltered conflict around ideas.

This is very important. You must have conflict. Discuss concerns. Provide constructive feedback. This requires a safe judgement free zone that is maintained by all in the group.

This means no personal attacks. If you have an issue work it out with the team. Don’t just complain, offer solutions! Toss ideas out. Look for inspiration in what others are saying. Collaborate.

We often have very heated discussions. But it doesn’t mean we dislike each other. We are all invested in a solution that is in line with our goals.

3. They commit to decisions and plans of action.

We vote. It’s a democracy. We toss up a line poll and discuss then vote. Not anonymous. We are not ashamed of our opinions. You buy in with majority and follow through as if it was your own idea.

We meet up in voice chat a few times a week to discuss various scenarios and our counter. We also chat about us and just hang out in general. This is important and should be supplemented with a text room for daily stuff.

Once a plan is set it is published to the kingdom. Everyone operates on the same page and has the same answers to each question.

No one goes off on their own. Everyone knows their role and where they are supposed to be. As leaders we see the big picture and intended outcome and delegate out tasks as needed to achieve this.

4. They hold one another accountable for delivering against those plans.

We hold each other accountable period. On everything. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. Don’t make excuses.

Making a bad decision isn’t the end of the world. Admit it to and what you’d do differently next time. Listen to other’s advice and don’t make it personal.

Punishment applies to all. Break a rule and suffer the consequences. No exceptions.

5. They focus on achieving collective results.

You have to have a shared goal. It is when a team has different outcomes in mind that you run into issues.

For example you agree to go all in and put it all on the line next KVK round. You bought into it and plans were set. But you have cold feet. You don’t want to sacrifice all those resources because it’ll delay your sh upgrade.

So you don’t play your part and the battle was lost. You see where victory would have been achieved if you’d just done your part. Everyone on the team is disappointed and they make it known. Trust is lost and you’ll have to work harder to get it back.

That is an example of a team not working cohesively. Don’t do it. Back each other up. Have fun.

Vacation from Social Media

Vacation from Social Media

I’m taking a vacation. Not the kind you’re thinking of. I’m still going to work every day and if anything putting in more hours.  No I’m taking a vacation from social media. It started last week. On day 9 and I think tomorrow will be my last vacay day. Maybe.

What does this mean? It means I took a break from editing YouTube videos. Even filming for them. I did some blogging but it wasn’t a chore. It was fun and refreshing.

Really I needed to step back and evaluate what I’m doing. My brand has always been Purls HQ the gamer. But I’m so much more. I expanded my blog to include the wife and workaholic. It is a thin line for me because I’m careful to keep personal offline.

Really the blog is where I can ramble. It is somewhat anonymous. My real identity is hidden and most people don’t even know my first name. Its Christine if you were wondering.

I’ve been hyper focused on work and perhaps that’s why the vacation. KVK is cancelled for another month so I don’t have much to plan or do in game outside farming. Conquest starts in a few days and there is that. I went to BAR as they have never done conquest. Any version. So we brought some big guns to help out and wrangle ore while everyone else defends.

Maybe I’ll con some people to join discord and we’ll have some good old fashioned fighting fun. The alliance is pushing 6 billion power and that is after people dropped to exclude themselves from the event. We expect some beasts.

Good chance for me to test myself. I have accomplished all but my sh 32 goal so far and I still have a month for that. I have more to do for boosts but at least I have the gear and gems and can work on enhancing and leveling them. I have centered my focus on heros and banners.

Heros have been an item I set aside for a long time. It was a part of my plan to focus on them once banners and gear was set. The new hero and even more coming means I picked a great time for this focus. I got Isobel to 4 stars so March cap is done. I replaced Balin with Grifflet and he is almost 4 stars. Grifflet worked better for me on boosts and using blue over purple can be advantageous.

Banners were put on hold for deathseeker and I’m focused on them again. Easy with spire loot and the spirit store and passive banners that just collect. Goal is to max my buildings on 30 prestige and then upgrade them to 31 and max that with banners. Maybe before our next match? Gives me a month and who knows what the anniversary even has on store…

Long Term Goals

Long Term Goals

So today was productive. I promise you I’m just as surprised at today’s achievements as you will be. Many were long term goals I set months ago. They have been a long time coming and I’m feeling both a little dazed and proud. 100% #Gamer post.

As many of you know if you follow me (if you don’t you should) our KVK was “cancelled” and we have replaced it with a vacation and growth.  We all set goals to achieve before our next match up and in this post I’ve achieved all but the final – stronghold 32.  But the items I completed today set me up for this upgrade.

Deathseeker Set Complete

It all started as I logged in and tallied my Deathseeker helm cost. I had 1.5 mats. I shopped the fair as I often do for bargains. First remember that each special mat for Deathseeker costs 64k gold. I had 140k gold at the start of this journey.

1 – Had $10 left on GP card. It was a $50 card but I used $40 on two Ice Lord packs yesterday. I bought a 3rd today and charged the $10 to my card (opps). Two mats down, two to go

2 – Warmonger Helm gives a Dragon Bone and Dragon Hide special mat. So 128k value that I acquired for 106k in the Merchant Fair. So I forged my final Deathseeker piece.

Deathseeker Set +1

Last night I paid 5k gold to enhance my fifth Deathseeker to +1. All that was left was the new helm. 8k gold later that was also done. Essence is a bitch to acquire without $$.

Total Cost = 115k gold
Feeling = Priceless

Attack Chivalry Maxed

I acquired this beauty mid-March and have been dumping all free stones and gems into it every since. I finally passed the half way mark and soon completed three quarters. I was done being patient.

I traded in Animal Hide, Cerussite, Pine, and Bronze for spirit coins and bought five level 5 refining stones.

Result = Max Gem Attack
Feeling = Euphoric

Buildings to Level 30

I don’t even know how this happened. I did the first few without the hammer relic. Then bought it because I wasn’t stopping. My Storehouse started at 28. My Trading Post at 25. I also brought my Wishing Well from 25 to 30.

Then I started the 9 day 4 hour build in my wall. Stronghold 32 is pending badges.

I can now get all my buildings to prestige 30.

Cost = 28m Silver + 70m Iron + 125m Wood
Feeling = Can’t believe I did that

So I logged off. Before I did something insane. It is safer for everyone this way.

😘

Friday Night Nevermind

Friday Night Nevermind

It’s almost 8pm on Friday night and I’m working. Not intentionally. My plans involved relaxing with some alcohol and watching The Crown on Netflix. Perhaps send my farmers out on tiles in KoA. Friday Night Nevermind.

Nope. Instead I’m handing a major client issue that cannot be resolved until Monday and writing this post to vent before I go ballistic on the culprits.

Exasperated. My client is unable to operate their business on one of the busiest weekends since it is just before Father’s Day.

I can’t even.

Hope everyone else is having a better Friday!

The Online Empath

The Online Empath

One of the hardest things for me is condolences. It is not because there is nothing I could write; is because I sense that no matter what I write it will not have the desired effect on the other person and therefore nothing I could write passes the online empath test.

I know how they will feel when they read whatever I’ve written and delete and retype. Then try again. Eventually I give up. It is difficult because I want to reassure and make them feel better but that is impossible because nothing I write can achieve that. In these situations the only thing to do, is be there for that person so they have an open forum to vent and cry without judgement. But how do you communicate that in writing? “I’m sorry that happened and I’m there for you?”

Empathy is considered a standard human emotion, some have more or less. Few none. In my case it is more a superpower. It is a difficult thing to live with and only as I crossed into my 30s did I learn to control it. Perhaps I should explain what all of this is and how it works.

Empathy for me is feeling another person’s deepest emotions without any real effort. It is subconscious and many empaths spend portions of their life thinking they are too emotional. Cry at the drop of a hat. Get angry too fast. Called weak.

Until the day you realize that it isn’t you who is sad, hurt, or angry. It is someone around you. All you are doing is absorbing their emotion and channeling it. Unless you make yourself aware of this occurrence you will never control it. Or prevent it.

In general I do not like people because they make me feel emotions that are not mine and shielding myself from that is exhausting. I have a threshold and once that is met I cannot cope and differentiate between my emotions and those of others. So I start acting out with theirs.

With empathy I also have a good sense for who people are. It isn’t always the surface emotions but the hidden intent people have. Most learn this by reading body language. Perhaps I do this subconsciously but there is no doubt that within five minutes I can tell who you are as a person. Even in online socialization.
